JOHN A. LEJEUNE: THANKSGIVING 1918

As the First World War came to an end the American Expeditionary Force was spread across France and Germany and a Marine was in command of the U.S. Army’s Second Division, again. Because the Division was so far forward, President Woodrow Wilson’s Thanksgiving proclamation had not yet reached the troops and Major General John A. Lejeune, Commanding General, Second Division chose to address the division with his message of thanks.

We offer this as our Thanksgiving message to you, our readers and listeners, for a happy and safe and hopeful holiday season.
