It’s time for another episode of On Writing. A Better Peace welcomes William Inboden to the studio to discuss his book, The Peacemaker: Ronald Reagan, the Cold War, and the World on the Brink. Will sits down with host Michael Neiberg for a conversation about capturing the efforts and accomplishments of the 40th President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, and his administration as they confronted the Soviets, reduced the nuclear threat and won the Cold War. The discussion examines how Will moved past his preconceived notions to present an unbiased and accurate account of the actions and interactions of the Reagan national security team in the 1980s.
Anyone who does a really careful read of my footnotes will see I don’t cite the interviews a lot even though I collectively did a few hundred hours of interviews…they just weren’t as helpful as I thought they would be…It’s a cautionary note on their limited utility.

William Inboden is Executive Director of the Clements Center for National Security and Associate Professor at the LBJ School of Public Affairs, both at the University of Texas at Austin. He previously served at the State Department and on the National Security Council staff, and is the author of The Peacemaker: Ronald Reagan, the Cold War, and the World on the Brink.
Michael Neiberg is the Chair of War Studies at the U.S. Army War College.
